Lifflander & Reich is a New York City-based litigation boutique with decades of experience investigating and successfully litigating serious matters.
Our practice encompasses highly selected areas of injustice, including:
- Representing qui tam whistleblowers, known legally as "relators," who have first-hand knowledge of fraud against federal and state governments. We have been especially successful in the area of health care fraud — helping the government to recover money from those who cheat Medicare and Medicaid. The U.S.recently settled a $25 million qui tam whistleblower case with Staten Island University Hospital that we initiated and we currently have several whistleblower cases pending at various stages.
- Bringing medical malpractice actions against physicians, hospitals and other errant medical providers
- Prosecuting cases for people with serious injuries, death or catastrophic physical disability.
- Protecting consumers victimized by deceptive business practices and false advertising.
Our firm has a long record of successfully defending business organizations and individuals against unjustified claims. We enjoy an outstanding reputation as effective and efficient counsel for plaintiffs and defendants representing major clients in a range of cases, including commercial disputes, motor vehicle accidents, product liability, construction accidents, employment, sexual harassment, and discrimination.
$25 Million Qui Tam Whistleblower Success
In 2004, Lifflander & Reich Partner Richard I. Reich broke new ground by filing parallel malpractice and qui tam whistleblower cases on behalf of a client. In September 2008, Staten Island University Hospital paid $25 million to settle those allegations. Our whistleblower-client received approximately $3.75 million for filing the False Claims Act complaint.
